A beautiful South Side morning with lighter than usual winds. It was still plenty soarable but you had to make the occasional well-timed top landing to avoid getting flushed to the bottom of the hill. Kat returned to the air in great form with a couple of perfect flights. The lighter air made it ideal for training; here's a shot of Santa helping Jared with one of his first flights.
I flew and kited my glider for the first hour and then I tried a new Freex wing called "The Dingo". I soared and kited it for an hour or so and made quite a few launches and landings. The South Side is a great place to check out a new wing.
The Dingo is a new design that's intended mostly for sale to schools. It's purpose in life is to make a new pilot's first few days at the hill as easy and rewarding as possible. I thought it was a blast to fly. It feels bombproof without being a "dog". The Dingo gives great feedback without feeling "tippy" at all. It's a modern glider in every way - it's just super easy to kite and fly. No, it's not fast, but that's a good thing for this type of glider. The speed and performance are plenty good enough for learning to soar, but not so great that a student will "fly off into the sunset" on their first flight. This glider will be a great tool for instructors (and it's gonna make students happy too). Thanks to Steve Mayer, owner of Cloud 9, Utah's biggest school and importer of the Dingo and many other wings for letting me fly this fun new wing.
