Last week I spent a day at the Senior Soaring Nationals at the Seminole Lake Gliderport in central Florida. You had to be at least 55 to enter this meet, and there were plenty of pilots that were much, much older than that. It was great to see so many geezers out enjoying the air. Some of the pilots were so decrepit that they could barely climb up into their cockpits, but many of these "ultra geezers" could still out-soar the 55 year old "young Iions". The task and handicapping parameters allow for older planes to be fully competitive with the latest, greatest composite wonders. Events like this prove that you don't stop flying when you get old, you get old when you stop flying!
